Emelyn was born and raised in San Diego and has lived here most of her life. She received her undergraduate degrees in both Ethnic Studies and Psychology from the University of California, San Diego. A few years later, she received her Masters in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2008, Emelyn joined the KIPP Adelante team and family, taught sixth through eighth grade, served as grade level and content chairs, and was honored to serve as a guiding teacher to graduate students from the USC Rossier School of Education and the USD School of Leadership and Education Sciences. She loves seeing her students grow and achieve great heights. She also takes pride in seeing our alumni to and through high school and college. Outside of the classroom, she loves spending time with her family and friends. You’ll most likely find her enjoying the outdoors: running races, cycling around the city, relaxing at the beach, and hiking on trails near and far.
